Tidal energy has many advantages that can be noted as; Renewable energy, predictable, long lifespans. In regards to being a renewable source of energy, this is because it utilizes natural occurring resources. “This energy source is a result of the gravitational fields from both the sun and the moon, combined with the earth’s rotation around its axis, resulting in high and low tides” (Energy Informative, 2012).
Furthermore, tidal energy is predictable which separates itself from any competitors. Wind and solar energy are 2 strong competitors; however, they perform at irregular paces which is hard to track. “High and low tide develop with well-known cycles, making it easier to construct the system with the right dimensions, since we already know what kind of powers the equipment will be exposed to” (Energy Informative, 2012).
Last but not least, another great advantage of tidal energy is, its long lifespans. The simple reason why is due to the fact that it utilizes reoccurring natural resources.
Conclusion
My initial understanding of this subject lead me to think that there is a lot of potential, as I researched it further I now have a greater understanding of tidal energy. Speaking upon future market conditions, the ultimate success boils down to whether or not the industry can generate enough funding. “Venture capital funding and government grant schemes are the vital aspects of this sector” (Sarah Smith, Prnewswire, 2016).
Tidal energy is an idea that is becoming more and more perused. With that being said, it is still in the initial process. After conducting extensive research, I came to find out that over the next 10 years or so until 2025, there is going to be significant changes in terms of individual market share (Sarah Smith, Prenewswire, 2016). Therefore, many new competitors may enter the market with advanced technology/ideas.
Due to recent global trends, the need for clean energy is enhanced. Moving forward, tidal energy is a strong and proven solution in addressing clean energy needs. Tidal energy is a sustainable resource, due to; predictability, long lifespans, and it uses renewable energy. I am eager to follow the news surrounding this trend, and continue to be updated on future developments.
