Type of data gathered

In the study, the group will gather information on the yearly revenue and sales of the most popular movies of the players as well as the different factors, national and global factors that may affect it. The group will also record data on how Star Cinema performs compared to other competitors in the Philippines (and also the exportation of movies) through research and analysis to further improve their production and marketing strategies.

Research Methods

In our study, we will first analyze the firm itself and the environment within it. We will determine the firm’s history, owners, mission-vision, goals, and any other logistics or infrastructure found within. We will then analyze the players of the furniture manufacturing and export industry. We will determine the industry’s size, market structure, supply and demand conditions, stage in the industry life cycle and all its competitive strategies. Next, we go further out into the national and global scale. It is in this part that we will check for effects in the industry caused by changes in culture, economic trends, political influence, nature, and technology. Finally, we will analyze the industry structure using Porter’s 5 Forces of Competition. We will also analyze the strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities of the firm using SWOT analysis. We will also determine what is needed for the firm to survive and flourish by checking the critical success factors the firm needs.

Significance of Research findings

Through research and data gathering, the group will analyze the different factors that affect the movements in the market of furniture industry. The group will gather information regarding the current trends in the supply and demand market in order for a company to cope with the current demands and innovations to increase its competitiveness in the market. These data can also be used for improvement in strategizing the market for better output and adapt to the changing needs of the consumers.

EUGENIO LOPEZ III

Chairman of the Board

Mr. Lopez was elected Chairmanof the Company’s Board of Directors on December 10, 1997, when his father, the late Eugenio “Geny” Lopez, Jr., turned over the reins of the family-owned company to the younger Mr. Lopez, who had been President since 1993. He joined ABS CBN in 1986 as Finance Director before he became General Manager in 1988. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Bowdoin College. He has a Masters degree in Business Administration from Harvard Business School. He worked as a General Manager of the MIS Group, Crocker National Bank in San Francisco, USA. Mr. Lopez is a recipient of various Philippine broadcasting industry awards. Mr. Lopez has served as Director of the Company for 11 years (1986-1997) and as Chairman and CEO for 7 years (1997-present).

CHARO S. CONCIO

Executive Vice-President & Head ABS CBN Entertainment Group

Ms. Concio is an AB Communications Arts graduate of St. Paul’s College in Manila. She joined the Company as TV Production Consultant in 1987. She worked as a Line Producer for the following movie companies: BanCom Audiovision, Vanguard Films, Regal Films and Vision Exponents. She was also Film Production Manager for the Experimental Cinema of the Philippines. Ms. Concio is a winner of Asia’s Best Actress Award and the recipient of various Philippine cinema and broadcasting industry awards.

RANDOLPH T. ESTRELLADO

Treasurer

Mr. Estrellado has been with the Lopez Group of Companies since 1996, starting as Assistant Vice-President for the Treasury of International Communications Corporation, and later as Assistant Vice-President for Finance of its holding company, Benpres Holdings Corporation. He joined the company as Assistant Vice-President for Finance in 1998 and was promoted to his current position in 2000. Mr. Estrellado obtained his Masters Degree in Business Administration from Harvard Business School in 1991. He obtained his degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Management, Honors Program, from Ateneo de Manila, graduating cum laude in 1986.

MALOU N. SANTOS

Senior Vice-President & Managing Director

Ms. Santos holds more than two decades of experience in the local film industry having started as a production assistant for Vanguard Films in 1982. She went on to become head of the movie division of Gryk Ortaleza, Inc., an entertainment company, then a line producer for Regal Films in 1986 and the general manager of Vision Films in 1989. She joined ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. as executive producer for its drama programs. In 1995, she became the Managing Director of Star Cinema. Concurrent with her position as Star Cinema’s head, Ms. Santos was appointed Senior Vice-President of the Drama Division for ABS-CBN Entertainment Group in 2003. Ms. Santos graduated from the University of Sto. Tomas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management.
