Getting further into the album you make it to songs such as “Migraine” and “Car Radio”. In these lyrics, it’s clear that every word has a deeper meaning, and everything is somehow connected. It’s rare to find good, catchy music these days, with lyrics that actually mean something, so that’s definitely an achievement in itself! Besides that, these songs are beautifully written, I’ll even allow myself to call them poetic. On top of this, these two songs are sung with such power and emotion by Tyler Joseph which gives the effect that they touch you on a whole other level. But these songs aren’t the only ones with deeper meanings. It seems as if every song on the album are made to be analyzed and interpreted. Tyler Joseph has, through many years of his life, lived with anxiety and depression, which seems to have influenced the lyrics on this album.

But even though the songs on this album are very emotional, they leave you feeling happy and at peace, along with having a catchy chorus on your mind all day. It might sound a little boring with sad lyrics, soft piano- and drums, but Twenty One Pilots manages to mix power and energy with personal, emotional lyrics. The songs might start out sad and quiet, but suddenly they punch you out of nowhere with their electronic skillset and harmonic, tickling beats.

The album has a repeating theme in its songs, with the imperfections of humanity. We see it in “Migraine” and “Car Radio”, but we also see it in songs like “Screen”, “Semi-Automatic” and especially in the song “Guns for hands” concerning gun-violence where Joseph sings “I’m trying to sleep but I can’t when you all have guns for hands.”

What is also impressive about this album, is a song like “The Run and Go”. It separates itself from the other songs, with a stronger indie-pop vibe to it, but Joseph and Duo still manages to make It fit perfectly in between the mix of hip-hop and electronica tunes. Joseph and Duo continues to impress, and it seems as if the duo merely has to close their eyes and magic tunes and rhythms will appear before their very eyes.

In a world where Justin Bieber, who wrote the words “Swag, swag, swag, on you, chillin' by the fire while we eatin' fondue” can become a world-famous popstar, we need Twenty One Pilots. Twenty One Pilots album Vessel is a rollercoaster of emotions, and the lyrics are true pieces of art. If you haven’t listened to the album yet, I strongly suggest that you do. It will turn your world upside down.
