Then we have excitement. Excitement is commonly nights on the town to break the monotony of everyday life. Its the search for excitment, looking for a thrill. This whats referred to as a “Night on the town.” These nights usually involve alcohol, sexual adventures and music. Sometimes it just them leaving theur block or territory to do the same thing they would do in theur neighborhood in someone elses. These nights on the town are needed when there is long periods of inaction.
Fate is when there are largers events happening in ones life governed by the forces outside of their own control. In the relation of searching for excitement the concern of fate arises. Within this two distinctions are made which is being luck or unlucky within the lower class standards view of them. People within the lower class feels as if their fate in many cases is already given out to them and they are playing the cards they were dealt. They feel no control over what happens to them in everyday life its just what is meant to be will be. You are considered luck when you achieve materialistic rewards such as car, house, cash flow and you are unlucky when things dont go your way.
Lastly we have autonomy which is the need to be independent. This is looked as someone who makes their own way. Nobody can or will tell them what to do its the idea of being self governing. The lower class looks up to people who did it their way no help from anyone. A person who went against the odds took care of themselves and recieved litlle to no help if any in achieving their goals. The way most achieve autonomy or the thought of it is not listening to their elders or people of power. This is the “nobody is gonna tell me what to do” person a rebel.
In conclusion these 6 focal points exist within the lower class sub culture do to the lack of acheiving positive stimuli. This group of patterns is a subconcious pattern descendent upon each generation of the peoples of these communities. This pattern would not exist if it wasnt some negative stimuli forcing them to adhere to their own rules and ways of living to achieve status within their communities.
