Q.2) How do you think a shift from IT implementation to IT strategy and design will affect the HR acquisition function at Infosys?

The shift from IT implementation to IT strategy and design will lead to the transition of Infosys from providing Low-end services to Higher-end services as well as end-to-end solutions. This would indeed change the competitors of Infosys from TCS and Wipro to IBM and Accenture. Also, shift will have to be accompanied with the change in processes involved for acquisition function of Infosys as well as the learning values, emotional values and financial values in alignment with the HR policies of the company. The company will have to undergo changes in the recruitment processes, training programmes and organization structure of the company.

For Infosys, the HR acquisition was generally done from 2 sources:

- Acquiring freshers from institutes

- Acquiring employees with prior work experiences from competitor firms

The average age of the company was 26 years as the major chunk of employees were recently passed out college graduates. They were in a habit of giving large number of job offers across college campuses which often led to increase in bench.

With the shift taking place, HR acquisition will be affected in the following ways:

- The recruitment of freshers from colleges will have to done in a heedful way as IT Strategy and Design requires more experience and maturity of employees. A reduction in the freshers recruited would thus lead to increase in average age as well as the decrease in the bench that was often created.

- Recruitment will have to be done from Management Institutes rather than Technical institutes due to the curriculum of Management institutes matching more appropriately with the job requirements.

- Infosys needs to attract well known and efficient employees from bigger firms like Accenture and IBM, for which higher salaries, greater benefits as well as better HR policies have to come together to get them.

- Training processes have to be more motivating and subtle, thus ensuring that the transition of sophisticated professionals into the company is smooth.

- Organisation structure should undergo changes by making the firm more horizontal so as to provide more decision making powers to employees.

- For the people already working in Infosys, formal training by experienced personnel of the industry could make them ready for the shift to the Strategy and Design services.

- The acquisition will have to be majorly biased for domain experts which is the key requirement for Strategy and Design services
