Article and Applying Research
The article I read talked about research in human resource management and the challenges faced by trying to do research. They used the scientific method in their research for this article. The problem identified was the need for research and the challenges of doing the research. Brewer, Tregaskis, Hegewisch, and Mayne, (1996) state the aim of this paper is to explore some of the complexities of conducting comparative international research and in particular internationally comparative surveys (pg. 1). This article also reviewed what other researchers had to say on the subject. They specified a problem in how research was conducted by using surveys and other issues. This article then discussed how they collected data and then analyzed the data.
Scientific Method and Human Services
By using scientific methods of research the human service manager can be knowledgeable in their field and be confident their methods are sound practice. Research lets the human service workers know which methods are appropriate and how to apply them. This helps the human service manager to run the agency better and the workers to better help the clients. Being able to do sound research is a valuable skill that all workers need to know. This allows them to be knowledgeable about the theories they are applying, have accurate data, be more competent, and make more professional decisions rather than relying on their own feelings.
Conclusion
The scientific method and the steps of inquiry is an important part of most people’s jobs. This method allows for many professionals to know how to begin to research topics that they may need to know more about. From the doctor to the social worker research methods are important and help workers to be more knowledgeable in their line of work. The six steps of inquiry are important and help to guide the research work. The article I read used the scientific method and the steps of inquiry to help them in their research work. Each step helped to define their topic, with what they were looking for, enable them to find other research on the topic, and help them to test their theory. While we have researchers who research and help find answers to questions we may have, we all have to be a researcher in order to find answers that we are sure are true and factual.
