The Magisterium’s third argument, Complementarity Argument is based on three main points. The first point says that homosexual acts do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. This is not supported, or even contradicted by extensive research that provide examples of how homosexuality can be a way of embodying responsible love and human friendship. The second point says that homosexual acts cannot contribute to the good of the human person. The third point broaches the topic of parenthood, wherein the CDF claims that homosexual unions create obstacles in the normal development of children. Both the second and third point are contradicted by research.

The third foundation for the church’s condemnation of homosexual behavior is “the moral sense of the Christian people.” The author argues that there is research, at least in the American context that questions this and actually shows that more and more Catholics do not condemn homosexual behavior.

All these contribute to what the author believes is a need for change regarding the Church’s stance on the issue. The church must reconsider it within the context today to better reflect people’s actual experience and who they are in the present time. The author emphasizes that these arguments mainly serve as a critique of the basis of the church’s take on the issue and does not serve as proof that homosexual acts are moral but merely that they can be when considered merely as the inverse of heterosexual acts. Both of these require certain criteria and are subject to similar pitfalls which can make both an avenue for either enrichment or sin.
