Conformity is part of human nature. According to the essay ‘You Are Conformist (That Is, You Are Human)’ written by Noam Shpancer, the child begins the effort to align the self socially at the second of the year. When the infant falls down, depending on parents’ reaction, the infant will react correspondingly (Shpancer). If mom looks scared, the infant cries; if mom looks relax --no tears (Shpancer). Infants who are only 2 years old begin to conform. It is as natural as eating and sleeping to them. Human nature is something that inherent native be born with in human's blood. Conformity of the baby proves the truth that conformity is part of human nature. Shpancer also did an experiment on his students. He asked two students to stay outside, and their mission was to get other people’s attention after they back to the classroom (Shpancer). The mission of the rest of the class was not to have any contact or any sort of interaction with the two students (Shpancer). The result was not surprising—the two students failed the mission, and they felt extremely embarrassed. Shanpcer did this experiment to show people how they conform easily and naturally. None of Shpancer’s student stood up and made a protest to say that it was unfair and uncomfortable to trick classmates. Human nature can be easily reflected during an event—it is most commonly known as curious and selfish. Conformity is always forgotten but it is the easiest one that can be reflected on most of the people. None of the students made a protest; all of them conformed to remain silence. Although the example is negative, that’s how human nature works. People collect information; they wait for any reaction from the environment; and they take action to meet the situation that best benefit them. Conformity is the part that people can't eliminate from themselves as well as any other part of human nature. How could a human live as a human if he doesn’t have human nature?
Conformity is necessary in several aspects of human’s life and society. It helps people gain public acceptance (Shpancer), build a society painted with harmonious color, and make a people a complete human. Conformity for most of people is a thing that should be shunned or feel shame about it, however, it is not. Many people don’t have enough acknowledgement of the word ‘conformity’, and they look down upon the people who conform (sometimes, it could be themselves). People benefit and survival from conformity. If human eliminate conformity, they eliminate human nature. People, to dare conform when it was thought as a right time; don’t feel shame about it. Conformity help people survive, help society function, and as Shpancer said, “it is our home base, our default.”
