Some barriers that survivors of abuse may face is they think they have nothing of their own so they would not be able to take care of themselves or their children if they have any. Their abuser may have too much control over them and they think there is no way out of it, even if they do get away they think the abuser will always have a way to find them. It is a tough thing to walk away from an abuser, some people think it is impossible. All it takes is one ounce of courage to run and help can be found. Through everything that has happened to survivors of abuse there is always hope for something better.
I think there is always a gender bias when it comes to abuse. It is not “normal” or even “acceptable” sometimes for men to say they were abused, either with domestic violence or sexual assault. Men are supposed to overpower woman or even other men, in society there is no reason for men to be assaulted. Men are supposed to be able to take care of themselves. I think there will always be a problem with this. I do not think that just because men say they were assaulted it should be shrugged off. People are capable of doing awful things, it does not matter if they are male or female. I think the gender bias needs to change, if someone needs help they should be helped regardless if it is “normal: or not.
