With all things considered, I do know that people would say “It’s good for our business” because it is a free way to advertise business. Also, I know people would say “I have long distance friends and family, this is how I stay in contact with them”. But, for one, there are many options and sources out there to advertise business. Such as writing a column, or joining a podcast or teaching a class about their products. Not only that, having a social media page for your business could end up doing more harm than good. For instance, an angry costumer goes onto the social media page of your business, and writes a nasty or horrible review. That now has just showed all your followers and customers a bad review to your company! Lastly, I know that people want to stay in contact to family and friends that live far away. But there are many other ways to do so. For instance, talking on the phone, writing letters, or even skyping which is a live video stream to one another. You don’t need to have a social media page to stay in contact with anyone! As a matter of fact, we all know when a family feud breaks out, social media is one of the first places the feud gets too. In other words, do you want everyone knowing your person business? I didn’t think so.
Overall, I do know now personally I am getting off social media. Not because of the fact that I’m trying to make a point, but because of the fact that I would much rather spend my time with my children, they grow fast and time goes by quick. You can’t take time back. For all these reasons stated above, I don’t want to end up missing out on those moments of them growing up, but also feeling even more guilty than I already do. Lastly, I want to be the best guide to them that I can be and being on my phone constantly isn’t. My mother always told me this saying that your children will become who you are, so be who you want them to be. I find this to be true, and if I’m constantly on my phone rather than spending time with them, and they see that. They will then begin to think it’s okay to be constantly glued to their phones, and letting social media over indulge in their lives, when it most certainly isn’t. There are more important things in live, than having a present on social media.
