of all aircrew” (p. 243). Thus the previous training becomes the necessary part of aircrews’ life. Many flight accidents have something to do with pilots’ and aircrews’ mistakes. It is extremely stressful for pilots to fix problems when they are flying in the high air which is a very unstable environment. From training, they can collect data and anticipate the things that would happen so that they can think of some ways to fix the issues in advance. People lose their normal abilities of thinking and judging; hence if they already have guidelines and rules in their mind from previous practicing, they will be less panic and tend to make better decisions. People are improving the training programs all the time to improve flight safety.
Besides the aircrew example, all kinds of decision makers are adapting this training strategy. Fire-fighters need to make immediate right decisions when facing life-saving stress. According to Lars Fredholm (1997), “In this there is a need for anticipating the development of the dynamics and to understand what problems are going to appear and to prepare their solutions.” (p. 107). All these things need proper training and practicing. According to Alan Auerbach (Winter 1999), the editors Janis A. Cannon-Bowers and Eduardo Salas “deal with the selection of training approaches such as improving performance readiness, training stress coping skills, and identifying skills that are most vulnerable to stress.” in Chapter 2. Clearly, training for decision maker is so significant that people are studying many ways to train decision makers.
Making decisions under stress mostly causes people to make unwise decisions, Previous training and practicing is a very good way to avoid bad decision making.
