You could discuss the cases/examples featuring: Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Freddy Gray etc if you are doing police brutality

Section 4: Theories/Questions

Connect theories about this issue to 3 questions regarding race, gender, economics, sexuality. Briefly answer your questions.

Why is a murderer blamed for murder but a victim is blamed for rape?

How can we teach people than men and women are equal when, for centuries, we have been taught that women are inferior?

Section 5: Solutions

We could tell you about the ways a woman can avoid being raped. We could talk about how she should dress modestly, how she should avoid going out after 7pm, especially without the company of a man. We could mention the common places that rape occurs, such as dark alleys, parking lots, especially in summertime and most frequently at night. We could also mention the self-defence weapons that a woman can use when she is attacked. But then we would be telling you that it is a woman’s job to not get raped and a man’s self-control is her own responsibility. We would be saying, “protect yourself. Don’t let it be you, but it’ll be another woman instead” but if we say that, we wouldn’t be solving the problem, we’d just make it some other woman’s problem.

Why is a murderer blamed for murder but a victim is blamed for rape?

We need to educate our men. We need to teach them that women are equal to them; women are not weaker, vulnerable, and they are not a product to use when they want to. We should also destroy the idea that men should respect women because they are their mothers, wives, sisters or daughters. Men should respect women because they are people too. They don’t need more reasons than that.

How can we teach people than men and women are equal when, for centuries, we have been taught that women are inferior?

Section 6: CritiqueMedia coverage of violence against women in India: a systematic study of a high profile rape case.

NOT ALL MEN

CONCLUSION:

Although we mentioned many negative things taught to men by society, this is just addressed to men who rape. This is not a fight against men. This is a fight for women’s safety and men can help ensure that safety. No, not all men rape but all women are afraid and all people can help stop this. We’re sorry if any of the men here feel criticised but 30% of women are raped and we won’t apologize for addressing the issue even if it makes you feel attacked. We want women to feel safe, not men to feel inferior.

This is every woman’s reality. This isn’t a debate that you can be for or against. This is the daily life of every woman living in fear of violence. And if you still can’t see the problem, then you are part of the problem.
