Suicide is one of the leading causes of teen death. According to the “Suicide Awareness Voices for Education”, eight percent of high school students have made a serious attempt at suicide, thirteen percent planned on doing it but never followed through, and sixteen percent strongly considered ending their life. Nearly eighty percent of students that actually went through and committed suicide have shown to have had depressive symptoms caused by bullying (Bullying suicide statistics). Experts have not linked bullying directly to suicide but they do believe that it lead to the depression which led to the suicidal thoughts. "Suicide is one of the most important causes of adolescent mortality," said study author Mitch van Geel, of Leiden University in the Netherlands. "We found that attempted suicides are significantly related to bullying, a highly prevalent behavior among adolescents”(Bullying linked).

In conclusion, there are many effects that bullying has on a person. These include self harm, suicide attempts, and long term depression. All children/teens deal with bullying differently, some just ignore it, others take it to heart and dwell on these thoughts that are put into their head constantly. Bullying is not a small incident anymore, bullying causes serious harm to anyone connected to it, the bully, the bullied, and even family and friends of both.
