The keystone and Dakota access pipelines won’t help the gas prices in the United States either. Some critics contend that the pipelines will cause the gas prices to rise especially in the Midwest. That is because currently, without the pipeline, much of the oil being produced in Canada cannot be easily transported to Gulf Coast refineries, and intern has difficulty reaching foreign markets. Consumer Watchdog has predicted that the Midwest could see “increases at the pump ranging from 25 cents to 40 cents a gallon, depending on how regional refineries respond to paying $20 to $30 more per 42-gallon barrel for Canadian crude oil.” The persons to most benefit from the Keystone and the Dakota access pipeline won’t be the consumers.

The Native American people will continue to fight, not just the Sioux tribes but all of their supporters including the 4,000 veterans form our military that have already been protesting. The keystone and Dakota access pipeline conflict is far from over and will be going on many years down the road. At one point at least 10,000 people showed up to protest. Clashes with police have sometimes turned violent and more than 600 people, including journalists have been arrested or charged. People even camped out in a winter weather storm and were advised to leave, but still stuck through.

The United States president, Donald trump, singed the memorandum on the Keystone XL Pipeline giving the go ahead to continue building the pipeline and will cost $3.8 billion dollars to tunnel under the Missouri river. All we can do now is sit back and watch as the pipeline is build. And pray it does not create a natural disaster we as a country cannot come back from.
