Since the war ended, the two countries that were once united in language and culture split their identities. England stopped using French as its official court language during the course of the war. France became a unified nation, and the king who was considered “first among equals,” began to take on more responsibility and authority.7 France was not the only country to discover its own identity, England too began to see this. England withdrew from many continental politics, and began to see itself not solely Europe.
The Hundred Years war caused devastation to both England and France, but allowed France to become its own entity. The outcomes from this are far more rewarding than the negatives that occurred. This war aided in shaping France to what it is today, and it also helped with creating an awareness of nationalism. The reason the Hundred Years War is so monumental and significant is because of its effects and outcomes. The ending of the Hundred Years’ War coincided with significant social, cultural, and intellectual changes in Western European history.6 The Hundred Years War brought about a change for each country’s society. There was a difference in warfare, technology, political, and social aspects of life. These differences created a better and more promising future. The Hundred Years war had a profound effect on global history.
