With the spread of Hindu and Buddhist missionaries throughout Southeast Asia it was Buddhism that remained the most powerful during the first and fifth century AD. Buddhism eventually developed through Central Asia and China. It became the local interest, many rulers eventually adopted the religion bringing ethics to their people. Buddha’s teachings spread throughout the Indian subcontinent. It was freely modified by different culture’s because it never developed an overall hierarchy of religious authority.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Southeast Asia is the regions ancient history and the influence of Indian cultural values. It is fair to say that the region is not dominated by one ethnic group or civilization. Hinduism has played a force in mixing religions together for thousands of years in Southeast Asia. Although Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Taoism, and Animism comes from divergent roots they are said to resemble each other.
