c. What functions does the culture serve for your school?

The university’s culture is to strive to be the best in order to be in the list of top ranking universities. This could be seen where academic fields, such as research, thesis and publication of research papers are put as the focal points to achieve this vision. Hence, university is trying their best to produce a conducive environment for the students and staffs.

d. Do you think the culture of your school is best suited to maximizing your learning? Why or why not?

Yes. As academic fields are given a high priority by the university, it is really an advantage for the students to learn and gain knowledge from university that will always trying their best in achieving excellence. Other than that, although extracurricular activities are not the top priority, yet all students i welcome to participate. Not only the students could gain knowledge in their fields, they could also learn non-technical things as well as soft skills. Hence, a well-rounded graduate could be produced upon graduation.

e. What kind of projects would be easy to implement in your school and what kind of projects would be difficult given the structure and culture of your school? Explain your answer.

Projects involving academic sector especially research and development are easier to be implemented as University of Malaya is trying to be one of the Top 100 universities in the world. Hence, by supporting and involve in projects about research and development, the gap to enter Top 100 ranking will be shorten.

However, projects that will be hard to join will be the ones involving political issues. Participations in any political campaigns or protest are illegal for all Malaysian Universities’ students. Anyone that is caught will be issued fines or warnings.
