My last poem to summarize is “Nothing Gold Can Stay” and it is also a short poem with a lot of meaning, and I also noticed that it rhymes throughout unlike the other two poems. This poem begins by discussing the beautiful colors of spring. As I have done with my previous poems, I will go by lines to interpret the meaning. (Line 1) “Nature’s first green is gold;” spring has arrived and the speaker is talking about the first green is gold. I think that it’s not only about the change of the leaves but the weather as well. (Line 2) “Her hardest hue to hold;” As stated in Line 1, the speaker says that nature is gold before it turns green but gold is the hardest color for nature to maintain. (Line 3) “Her early leaf is a flower;” The speaker is making it clear that when he is talking about nature’s first green is gold, the first leaf is undoubtedly a flower. (Lines 4-5) “But only so an hour,” “Then leaf subsides to leaf;” Even though the first leaf is a flower, it doesn’t stay that way for long. (Lines 5-6) “The leaf subsides to leaf,” “So Eden sank to grief;” It seems to me like the speaker is comparing the changes with the biblical Garden of Eden. Just like the flowers changed from flowers to leaves, the Garden of Eden also changed. Like Adam and Eve’s fall from grace from Eden. (Lines 7-8) “So dawn goes down to day,” “Nothing can stay;” instead of talking about the leaves now, the speaker is referring to the dawn going down to day. Nothing remains the same. Nature is always changing, bringing more beauty with it.

In conclusion, I really enjoyed reading each poem; the perspective of each was unique. The speakers were completely different and gave me insight into the minds of not only the speaker but the author. They really opened my mind and made me think about the deeper meanings of a poem.
