of all your tools. They push the sentence forward and give it momentum” (70).

All the authors used writing rhetoric. They used examples to give clarity to the readers which helped me to better understand these techniques and how to use them. Cooley used process analysis in “The Writing Process” and went step by step in explaining the process of writing “before you plunge headlong into any writing assignment, think about what the nature of the assignment, the length and scope of the text you’re supposed to write, and your purpose and audience” (24). Dillard used the descriptive technique in “From Holy The Firm” to give her readers a vivid picture of the moth burning in the candle “her moving wings ignited like tissue paper, enlarging the circle of light in the clearing and creating out of the darkness the sudden blue sleeves of my sweater, the green leaves of jewelweed by my side, the ragged red trunk of a pine” (6). Zinsser also use process analysis in “On Writing Well” that helped me to understand that there are many techniques that can help me write successfully. In The “40 Model Essay” Aaron also used examples that were easy to understand and even interesting “as children we acquire language to make ourselves understood and soon learn from the blank stares in response to our babblings that even these, our saviors, our parents, are strangers” (4).

I think I was given this assignment to be expose to different types of writing techniques, to know what they are, how to identify them and how to use them when writing. Before this assignment I had little knowledge of the different writing techniques, I barely even knew what writing rhetoric was, however I am more confident about writing because I have all these resources available to help me write successfully.

There is no one way to write, however using writing techniques is a good way to help us write successfully. In this essay I examined four authors and their views on three of the main writing techniques that helps me to write successfully which includes, journal writing, freewriting and revision. This essay also compared and contrast some of these views.
