In spite of all of the turmoil there are people out there that are trying to put an end or at least greatly reduce the amount of bullying occurring in schools. In “Rights Watch-Confronting the bullies” (Simpson) An organization called the NEA is attempting to become widespread in many school districts to spread awareness and prevent bullying. Kids are encouraged to be “upstanders” and defend kids who are being bullied. Things like Rachel’s challenge and Stand for the Silent are also working diligently to spread awareness of bullying throughout schools across the country.
This article is one of many calls for awareness that people need to pay attention to. Our culture has become very intolerant over the years and everyone is suffering. Not just children in schools but also grown men and women in the work place along with other public areas, including social media. There needs to be a change in our world that does not put up with bullying so kids don’t have to fear school the way my friend has, like so many other kids have; so that opinions, beliefs, and interest can be expressed without judgment. Hopefully one day we can live in a world where bullying is the second leading cause of the death of children.
