features easily.
Finally is Efficiency, it guarantees students are given a sufficient number of examples and opportunities to practice the material in a lesson. No unnecessary information should be provided as it may confuse the student.
Each and every lesson should be culturally appropriate and diverse. We want all students to become open-minded and well-rounded individuals who are not prone to stereotype others. We want them to be able to form their own opinions and beliefs about the world. Teachers must make an effort to learn about the student’s families, their values, and their expectation for their child’s education, thus providing a respectful learning environment that is meaningful not only for the student but for the teacher and the entire class. Lessons should be free of any bias and be considerate of non-English learners. All students should feel appreciated and valued regardless to their background, culture or language.
I would definitely use all of the resources listed in this lesson in my classroom. The book is a simple story that teaches student how to find the plot, setting and the characters of a story. It also demonstrates how each of us are different and how we think differently. The Annenberg learner multimedia website is also a great resource that extends students understanding about the elements of a story while engaging and entertaining the students. It explains each element in detail and then allows the student to test their own knowledge. Lastly, the song “Parts of a story” teaches the student a fun and easy way to remember the elements of a story by using hand movement along with a catchy tune. Research has shown that students retain more knowledge and information when it’s introduced through music.
