In junior year I felt like more of an adult, just because I had my own ride to get to school with, there was prom to look forward to and high school was coming to an end. I remember school wasn’t so rough for me in the past years but when I started the year I didn’t want to pay much attention to the teachers but to my friends instead. I got involved with this one guy who had the same interests and similarities as I did and soon after we got so attached to one another to where we always wanted to be with each other. I did go to every class and listen but I didn’t do the home work or assignments that were due because I was focused more on having a boyfriend. I enjoyed having someone liking me and wanting to spend time with me other than my own family.
As weeks went by, parent teacher conference came up and it was the first time that I did not want to attend because my grades weren’t top notch for my parents. After that I realized I needed to get back in shape with my GPA because no one else is going to do the work but me. However, this time I didn’t go to any of my teachers for help. I went to see Kari Pugh, the counselor. I was so anxious to step into her office for advice because she knew I was one of the honors student in my class.
Once I told Mrs. Pugh my struggles and she assured me that everything will be okay in the end if I just put in the work. She helped me prepare for tests that I would had took in the near future. She inspired to go further in life with my education, she taught me and others as well that knowledge holds so much power and you should protect it by not turning to bad choices. I was able to be successful in my classes and continue to be in my relationship. Eventually at the end of my junior year I finished with A’s and B’s throughout the year because I always went Mrs. Pugh whenever I struggled in one of my subjects. I learned that it’s possible to juggle having someone special in your life and be determined while taking classes.
Now that I’m a sophomore in college, I still am learning how to get by with getting my assignments done and turned in on time, working out, and having my own time. I am very grateful for the opportunities that my education has and will lead me to. With each and every class that I’m taking I want to be able to take the information and connect it with my life right now.
