5) Impacts of Government Policies
Businesses around the world can choose to operate in many ways or forms, but they are structured and directed by government regulations. Laws do affect businesses by defining the codes the business must follow.
- Labor laws are regulations that pertain directly to how businesses treat employees, including wage regulations rules and worker protection rules. Some of these include Child Labor Protection acts and Occupational Safety and Health rules. This means the Biolite company must have safe and equal working conditions for all those on the designing team and those involved in the manufacturing process.
- Tax laws control how a business must report its income and expenses to the government. This is to ensure that companies such as Biolite are paying correct tax amounts within the countries they are operating within, helping the growth of the economy.
- Tariffs are taxes added to the cost of imported goods. This than increases the amount overseas buyers have to pay for the Biolite campstove.
6) Manufacturing in the industry vs at school
AT SCHOOL
To create the honey comb pattern around the stoves external body piece I would use the CNC router to cut the honey comb pattern into a sheet of metal. This piece of metal would then be bent over a mould made of wood. To create the fuel chamber, I would purchase a metal pipe and a metal sheet, I would cut a disc out of the sheet and weld it to the bottom of the pipe to form the chamber. To create the pot stand I would Roughly cut piece of metal into circular piece using the band saw or a grinder then I would heat the metal and proceed to use vacuum forming to form it onto a bowl that then sits on top of the body. Soldering iron and accessories such as solder would be used to put together and ensure a functioning circuit board where in the excess energy is then converted into electricity and stored in power bank , this would then involve connecting the power supply LED indicator, power button, USB charge out and micro USB charge in. Items such as the power module, legs and hinges for legs would have to be pre-manufactured and bought. The outside part of the power storage would be made through 3D printing, the piece would be designed on CAD software such as Autodesk 360 or SolidWorks. These parts would all be joined through welding and screws.
INDUSTRY
To create the honey comb pattern around the stoves external body a large industrial CNC router or punch press would be use to cut the pattern into a sheet of metal. To form the bowl shaped pot stand, circular pieces would be cut from a sheet of metal which would then be shaped by the pressure of a hydraulic press. All metal pieces used would be heat treated to make sure they are safe to use. The circuit manufacturing process beings with the making of the circuit board. This starts with making the substrate by layering glass fibre, epoxy resin and copper foil. After drilling takes place and the holes are then plated with copper. The board goes through a number of machines which place the components on the board in their correct position and solder them on, this connects all requires parts to the circuit to ensure it and the entire product is functional, including the power module. To produce the fuel chamber a metal pipe would have its edge curved on a beading machine with a rounding , a matching disc which would be the end cap would also have its edge curved. These two pieces would then be welded together and smoothed. The plastic piece would be made by a machine injecting the molten plastic into a mould, this would be cooled to solidify then removed from the mould. The legs would then be cut out using a punch press, the edges would then be bent with a bending machine. These legs would then be attached using hinges. Other pieces would be joined using screws and welding.
