Having had a four year marriage, Monroe struggled with drug addiction and personal troubles. At the time Miller didn’t write much, except for a screenplay gift, The Misfits, for Monroe. The movie was directed by John Huston, starring Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift. Sadly around the time of the movie release, the iconic couple got divorced.

A year later, Monroe had died. After The Fall, Miller’s controversial 1964 drama, was believed to be inspired by his relationship. Having capitalized the drama so soon after Monroe’s death, it was criticized by critics. Miller then responded to his critics by saying: ''The play is a work of fiction. No one is reported in this play. The characters are created as they are in any other play in order to develop a coherent theme, which in this case concerns the nature of human insight, of self-destructiveness and violence toward others.''

However in 1962, Arthur Miller married Austrian-born photographer Inge Morath and had two children (Rebecca and Daniel.) Unfortunately, his son Daniel was diagnosed with Down syndrome, and Miller decided to institutionalize him and keep him away from the family’s personal life. His wife Morath tried to bring him home as a toddler but failed. A couple years later, Daniel Day-Lewis who married Rebecca Miller, visited Daniel miller repeatedly. He then eventually persuaded Miller to try to contact his now grown adult son, who finally had been able to inaugurate a happy life. His son’s existence only became known to public after Miller’s death.

Morath, Millers third wife, died in 2002. Shortly after, Arthur Miller entered a relationship with Agnes Barley (a 24-year-old minimalist painter.) They only reached engagement, but planned to wed, because Miller died on February 10th, 2005. This was Death of a Salesman’s 56th anniversary. Arthur dying of heart failure, after had battling cancer and pneumonia, at his home in Roxbury, Connecticut. Arthur was 89 years old.
