Employees are more like to take a job that offers less money if the Work-life balance has increased. The case between Stacey and Harry, Stacey seems to more motivated because of the positive and negative reinforcement her company is imposing but she failed to have a Work-life balance while Harry who is also motivated and at the same time achieved Work-life balance is more likely to become effective and efficient in the coming years and to be loyal in the company his working for
Case Question:
- Stacey is more motivated and passionate about her job because for her, her current job is the only reason she wakes up every single morning and continuing her journey in life. She’s very fascinated about her job, she doesn’t take any break or long vacation for the last four years, she even ignore some invitation in relation with her social life and even missing doing household chores. Most of her hours including break time she spend it doing her work, when she gets home she reads manuscript and at the end of the day she feels that she needs another 5 hours to squeeze in more things. Harry Nelson, is also motivated but not like Stacey. He has his own family who also seek for his attention and as the man of the family he needs to provide the attention and support his family is asking for but Harry practiced work-life balance which is a very good thing for an employee.
- Yes, I would be surprised to know if Harry is earning more money compare to Stacey, to the fact that Stacey doesn’t used or taking any vacation privileges and Stacey must have more over time compare to Harry who strictly work for only 40hours a week.
- As A Manager, I Prefer to have Harry work for me, in today’s society, work is a necessity but it should be a source of personal satisfaction as well. As I analyzed the case, it clearly shows that Stacey is more motivated and job-career oriented person in contrast with Harry but the question is how long Stacey will be like that? For me Stacey might experience job burn out which will affect her performance in the coming years, she doesn’t have a social life which is another source of happiness of every person. The dedication that Stacey is showing will allow her to ask or demand for a better compensation package and if not provided she might leave and look for another company. While Harry is able to balance his work and his personal life, having a work-life balance is very significant for every workers as it become a meaningful achievement. Especially for Filipino’s, we will put the needs of the family before our own, and this ultimately influences the overall work ethics of a Filipino virtual staff. Work-life balance will enable to build a great relationship with workers, helping them become loyal, trust-worthy and highly productive in the business.
