Hello professor Hohgrawe,

I think your questions are relate to this week’s signature assignment. Because of several disadvantage of Business Analytics(BA), it is hard to build and maintain an analytics-driven culture in a company. Some companies don’t even use BA like you said.

First of all, only few employees can use analytics skills. It is cannot realistically expect that a company trains all employees to make use of their analytics methodology. Therefore, a company hires experts in the first place or gives up.

Second, a BA team that consists of only IT workers lacks an ability to deal with other departments. BA team members have to meet diverse demands which need anthropological sense and behavioral understanding. Unfortunately, IT workers don’t often consider those skills.

Third, many employees cannot find the information they stored when they actually need it. According to a research of Harvard Business Review, fewer than 44% of employees can find their information for their day-to-day work.

Besides of those, other factors such as; incorrect data, late arrived data, inconsistency between the business goals and IT’s goals, business executives’ ignorance of importance of BA, and etc.

Hi Chen-Han,

Thank you for sharing your idea. Mostly I agree with your idea. However, I think just because a company has more data, that doesn’t mean the company make better decisions. What if it’s a poor quality of data? Poor data such as meaningless or incorrect data leads to worse or no decisions. I think it is important to use a proper approach when collecting data.

I really enjoyed your idea! Thank you.

Best,

Ain Lee

Hi Wei-Chih,

Thank you for sharing your idea. I like your idea that organizations use statistics and analytics to make informed decision in terms of a market research or sales. Through my research, I have realized that many companies use advanced analysis techniques such as discriminant function analysis, linear regression, and logistic regression. These skills are used to identify the past performance and, mostly, to predict the future in the business.

Best,

Ain Lee
