Leaders must not only communicate selflessness but they must demonstrate it to their team members. This will establish a level of trust and cohesiveness among the team. When Jesus was crucified and resurrected, His disciples remained faithful to the cause and this was evident when they all gathered in the upper room to wait for the promise that Jesus said was coming; the promise of The Comforter, Holy Spirit.

Current Business/Organizational Literature

The values established at Synovus Financial Corporation are talked about often in business and organizational literature. An example of this is the Resilient Leadership Trilogy by Major General Robert F. Dees (2013).

In this trilogy series Dees uses his own life experiences as a leader in the U.S. Army, business, and non-profit ministry to give advice to young leaders. He understands that leaders get tired. Leaders get body slammed. Leaders also must bounce back, ideally even higher than before. Leaders must be resilient in they wish to succeed. He understands the resilience of young leaders has kept them in the fight, on behalf of the many who would conceivably fail without them. As importantly, a leaders leadership experiences are equipping them to lead thousands and tens of thousands. Having led and learned through challenging formative leadership experiences, young leaders will soon walk into a destiny of increased responsibility, service, and personal fulfillment.

An article by Jo-Anne Jones-Burbridge (2015) addresses the characteristics and qualities of a servant leader while also defining servant leadership and what that looks like when successfully implemented in an organization.
