Global Segment: As an industry whole, the new presidency of Mr. Donald Trump will be a large factor in industry changes. Just as with the political/legal segment, the airlines have the opportunity to both improve and decline. Results will depend on what each airline decides to do with the new opportunities. Emerging countries are growing and introducing new airlines which could potentially be new critical global markets. This is a market for US airlines to enter. Places such as Belize, Ethiopia, Georgia, Vienna, and Bulgaria are just a few to mention. In addition, President Trump is looking to get the United States very own oil pipeline. This would drastically reduce gasoline prices, thus lower costs for the airline industry, cost of a flight ticket, increase in travel plans, and increase in revenues. As for Delta, they have the opportunity to connect with these emerging countries since they are one of the largest airlines today and have the resources to do so. Delta has focused their efforts on luxury and creating comfort for their passengers. This is crucial for international flights. On long flights, passengers want comfort and luxury and see the reward as greater than the higher prices for these tickets.

Sustainable Physical Environment segment: As an industry whole, energy consumption is relatively low. The industry has reduced fuel costs as stated above due to increased technological advances. Of the world’s fossil fuel consumption, the airline industry consumes roughly 15% of the total. Each year, the industry reduces their energy consumption by 1-3%. The largest environmental impact is the noise management of the airline industry. To improve their footprints, the industry works to create safe routes avoiding sensitive sites, use noise reduction techniques, and limit night operations. As far as Delta is considered, they are consistently working to reduce their environmental footprint. As stated previously, they have reduced their cost of gas due to new technological advances. These advances allow for a reduction in energy consumption and increase in renewable energy efforts. Another technological advance that has reduced their environmental footprint is their phone app. The application allows and encourages passengers to use their boarding pass on their phone. This in turn reduces the check-in lines in the airports, reduces traffic inside the airport, and reduces paper waste.

In conclusion, the airline industry is better understood when analyzing their responses towards these seven environmental segments. Just like every other industry there are ebbs and flows for good periods and bad periods. Delta has worked to set themselves apart their competition in the industry. In doing so, they consistently increase their revenues and lower their costs. They work to respond quickly and accurately to any negative situation that may come about in their company, and they have time and time again proven to their customers and employees that they deserve to be and stay at the top to the industry.
