One of the limitations is that there are still some unclear boundaries in the concept of CSR. Many companies have not fully embraced CSR because they are confused about the benefits of the CSR. One of the reasons why the companies do not fully take initiatives towards CSR is that the benefits of CSR can hardly be quantified. In the short term, imposing CSR generates higher costs than benefits for the companies. Advantages of CSR can hardly be measured in a short period of time. The positive brand reputation as the result from CSR is an intangible asset of the company. The companies will fully embrace CSR if CSR is government mandatory regulation. Earning highest profit is still the prime consideration of every rational company.
Although the boundaries of CSR are still unclear, the CSR is beneficial to a company’s performance, especially in the airline industry. A company should embrace CSR in order to develop sustainably. CSR generates a positive working environment for the employees and thus strengthen the relationship between the employees and the company. Furthermore, a good brand image can be built by imposing CSR in the company. The business of the company increases when the company successfully build the good reputation in the market. Lastly, environmental CSR increases the energy efficiency and reduce the cost of fuel of the airline companies. Companies, especially airline companies should embrace CSR because it not only benefits the company but also the community and the environment.
