you, you don’t decide for me.

One could argue “pro-life” due to religious or personal values. The Christian Bible claims that the process of abortion is murder, and that if a woman can become pregnant, she can deliver the child, this has since been changed and twisted to fit modern culture, within religion or not. People believe that terminating a pregnancy no matter how far along, is murder. This point is often argued because when a pregnant woman is killed, it is said to be double homicide. How could two lives be lost in a murder, but no lives be lost in abortion? The answer to said question is this; a woman may become pregnant, and then it takes weeks for the cells to form a heartbeat, thus there being no death but instead an absence of life.

Another argument for “pro-life” is that abortion is morally wrong. Many religious groups have different ideas on the definition of a “person” or when abortion is morally acceptable since personhood at conception is a religious belief, not a provable biological fact. Most people reject the position that abortion is always wrong. Many people believe that bringing an unwanted child into the world is a crime, and that forcing a woman to have a child against her will is morally wrong. Many who are “pro-life” for religious or moral reasons believe that it is wrong to impose their values on everyone.

Religion is a great source of guidance and comfort for most of the people on this planet. But whose religion? Mine? Yours? America has done well keeping religion as separate from the law as possible. But you can’t mandate that abortion be illegal for everyone because your religion says so.

There will always be people who have very passionate feelings about abortion on both ends. But most people can imagine a circumstance where abortion should be legal and one where it shouldn’t be. People will be arguing forever over where to draw that line, but almost anywhere you put it, it will involve a choice. Whether you think abortion should be resolved based on morality, religion, economics or another guiding force, no one knows what the right answer is. There is no right answer; this is something each person has to decide for herself. We may all make a different choice, but that’s what “pro-choice” means.
