The first approach (as described above) towards the improvement of the situation is not as concrete as the second one proposed, but by creating awareness of the situation and demanding change through advertising campaigns, social media, and other mass-communication mediums, enough pressure can be generated worldwide to demand change. The involvement of important NGOs or key governments would also aid incredibly in the pursuit of renovation.

The other approach would involve both parties, the company (Foxconn) and their clients (Apple, Microsoft, Sony, etc.) in a joint effort to seek change. As part of a company’s social responsibility participating corporations could share their knowledge in human resources management to come up with a well developed plan to improve the quality of Foxconn’s work environment in exchange of certain pre-established concessions to their clients.

Both of these tactics are mutually beneficial and would completely improve the quality of life and the working environments of more than a million employees salaried by Foxconn. Such actions would also cause the general public to see both companies in a more positive light, improving their business to consumer relationships and setting an example to the world.

As previously stated, Foxconn is a very profitable and powerful company; they have a huge capacity and are responsible for the production of a little less than half of the worlds electronic products. Their disadvantage is the poor job they do in managing their human resources and how they fail to valorize their employees, something that has already made them to be seen in a very poor light by the rest of the world.

After some consideration, we understand that the second approach proposed to solve this ethical dilemma would create an incredible opportunity for this company to grow and to leave behind all the accusations made against them in the past. Also this proposal would prove to be a safer and a more reliable bet, ensuring better and longer lasting results; overall, is the most helpful one for the company. Anyhow there are some costs associated with the implementation of these changes and certain cultural barriers that’d have to be torn down, but with openness and the strength of a joint effort Foxconn could offer a much more acceptable experience to their employees.

The success of this plan would definitely impact all stakeholders previously mentioned. Obviously the biggest impact would be seen on the factory workers, as the working environment and wages would be better suited for their jobs. This would also impact the community by lowering or eliminating the alarming suicide rates previously mentioned, and overall offer a higher quality of life for employees and their families.

As for the involved companies, the implementation of these changes would definitely come with costs that were not previously considered. It’s important to plan ahead and foresee all possible variants to avoid harmful costs.
