Political Instability

Currently Pakistan is facing a shaky political situation. There is no equal distribution of food among the provinces which give rise to uproarings against governments. People of Baluchistan are the most food insecure of all the provinces. The farmers there have to give up their own crops to feed the masses of other provinces. A just system is in dire need to resolve this food conflict.

CONSEQUENCES

All the above mentioned causes are destabilizing Pakistan. Pakistan needs a system that ensures her people’s future is secure and sound in terms of food supply. Currently Pakistan is not producing enough food for her people, the energy crisis and political uprisings are resulting in food shortage and loss of human life. People of Thar recently were exposed to the worst case of famine in history of Pakistan. Many people lost their lives as there was no food and water for them. Pakistan is believed to have a mass of new born babies that are malnutrition. Most of them die after few days of birth only because the parents couldn’t provide the food for the child. The unavailability of the food is not only the problem but the soaring price of the food is making it difficult for the people to buy. On an average a man spends more than Rs 72,000 on a three meal diet that consists of crops, meat, fruits and vegetables. This becomes a problem when a man has to feed more than two mouths. The inflation is causing more and more people to suicide. Suicides are often seen in rural areas among the farmers. The decline in rural areas will result in no more harvest of crops.

PERSPECTIVES

Personal

I believe Pakistan needs to introduce educational programs in Agricultural sector. Government should educate the farmers and provide them with funds to continue their work. I recently came to know that a management degree is being offered in Agriculture by University of Management and Technology. More steps should be taken to aware the people of the problem at our hand. Avoid building houses in the rural areas. Government should take measures to control the population. Everyone has the right to eat. It’s the duty of the government to equally distribute the food and also to ensure availability of food at low prices.

national

At national level Pakistan’s Agriculture society is working to develop such individuals that contribute more to in the agriculture sector. Recently government of Pakistan announced the availability of funds for the farmers so they could buy machineries and seeds for planting. Government is currently taking baby steps to mend this situation with the farmers but more effort is needed if government wants to maintain a balance in the country.

GLOBAL

On a global scale China is the most advanced country in Agricultural sector. The scientists there have developed such products that yield more crops without any side effects. Also China is the most populated country in the world and China has found ways to tackle the food security situation very smartly. The African countries are badly affected by famine and Pakistan is among these African countries on number 7th according to FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) in case of food insecurity.

SOLUTIONS

- To ensure food security, Pakistan is in need of an action plan.

- Pakistan should support small farmers and offer them some monetary fund for their survival. They should be educated on how to efficiently use the resources to produce more crops. . If genetic engineering is being implemented in farms then farmers should be given proper education to follow these experiments.

- Not only men but also women should contribute more in our agriculture sector. Women should not be suppressed as they are the most important part of the wheel of nature.

- Adequate amount of money should be paid to the farmers so they are motivated to work for the government. Farmers shouldn’t be forced to sell food at lower prices to the government.

- It’s the government’s duty to control the inflation and provide food at cheap rates to all the people without violating the rights of farmers.

- People should also be made aware of how wrong it is to waste the food. People in Pakistan visit restaurants and every year waste tones of food. This food is ample for the under privileged. Government needs to introduce a system to stop this wastage of food. People need education on how to eat and how much to eat.

- A plan should be made for natural disasters to provide people with food and water when they are in the most need. Due to floods and earth quakes people are cut off from communicating with others. In this hour of need a plan is required to provide food and water to such areas where people are helpless.

- Demand and supply needs to be controlled. More mouths need food but the supply is less which gives rise to inflated price.
