Applied Behavioral Science

The organization development approach is study of human behavior, human relations, emotions and feelings that influences the culture and change in the organizations. The study of human behavior is based on various principles drawn from sociology, psychology theories and techniques that is used in human labs. The organization development theory propagates that it’s necessary to study the human behavior and group dynamics that has influenced the current environment in the organization and brining desired change in the group behavior that supports and integrates people, system, structure, process for organizational effectiveness

OD work

The OD Interventions range from those designed to improve the effectiveness of individuals through those designed to deal with teams and groups, intergroup relations, and the total organization. There are interventions that focus on what people do and those that focus on how people go about doing it. Finally, interventions may be roughly classified according to which change mechanism client tend emphasize

The organizational development work involves understanding the organizational need for change, reaching agreement with the organization on desired change and becoming aware of the problem that are identified through learning and diagnosis approach of data collection, analysis and feedback. Second level involves executing the planned changed to bring in desired behavioral change or change in process, structure and system that influences human behavior inside the organization. The action stage is includes actual changes in behavior resulting from corrective action steps taken following the second stage. Data are again gathered from the client system so that progress can be determined and necessary adjustments in learning activities can be made. Minor adjustments of this nature can be made in learning activities through Feedback mechanism.

The open system models are used by OD practitioners for implementation OD process in the organization for improving the organizational effectiveness. In essence the open model system practices that for every

I view OD as body of work informed by science and art, since the scientific approach is adopted for study of behavioral pattern in the organization, analyzed and actioned to bring desired change. The method of scientific study is measurable, tangible and objective. Whereas human emotions and feelings is subjective and is described based on social system, human relations and emotional intelligence. Therefore the study of human behavior is called as art since it comes with practice and experience.
