From another point of view, in the black community the N-word is used as a greeting amongst friends. Tupac separated the two words best- “Nigger is a black man with slavery chain around his neck and Nigga is a black man with a gold chain on his neck.” The word is thrown around as if its terrible history has vanished. Older crowds see it as a disgrace, yet younger people cant possible understand the true background of the word. The word was deemed the ugliest word in the English language and in 2015, it’s a struggle to find a black artist who doesn’t use it. The word died and was reincarnated by youth and rappers as another way to say “what’s up” or to describe an aggressive or ignorant black person shown in movies like “Don’t be a menace to which depicted a black man who lived and died by the gun. Yet, if the word new meaning is “what’s up” then what prevents white people or what fuels the anger of blacks when people of Caucasian decent use it?
The N-word was used to dehumanize black people and broke the spirit of many black yet, was born again as a way of greeting between blacks. Yet due to the words history and the mental set back it can bring, the word still shouldn’t be regularly used and never used in public or professional areas. Like Charles Barkley a former basketball player and current ESPN spokesman said referring to a Clippers player of African descent using the N-word “I use the n-word. I'm going to continue to use the n-word with my black friends, with my white friends. They are my friends. ...black people use it among themselves; it's in rap records. Listen, what I do with my black friends is not up to white America to dictate what's appropriate and inappropriate.” So the little kid tells his mother next time she pops him for saying “nigga” “The term “nigger” is not accepted in black communities yet the reincarnated word “nigga” is impossible to be removed from the mouths of black people and hip hop music. We have taken the power out of the word and belittled it to everyday conversation.”
