hotel before going back to his place. We had a nice talk on our way there and he asked me the question I was ready for. “Why did you chose me over any other loan partner?”. I told him that I chose him because of his smile. His smile was not a full smile but I could see a glint of happiness in those eyes. What I didn’t tell him was that my other reason for choosing him was because I liked that he didn’t ask for a couple thousand dollars and just asked for a couple hundred to help his business grow. He took me back and said goodnight and he left.

Day 3

Juan said I could wake up late because I had flown the long trip so I got up at 10 and it felt really good. Today we were going to his house to have breakfast and then we were going to go to his shop and make some things! He said he had a special breakfast for me today because it was my last full day. He had made nacatamal, a mix of cornmeal, vegetable, potato, with maybe meat (chicken is the most common) wrapped in a banana leaf and boiled. It was so good I had second and third helpings of it. We went to his shop and I learned how to make a chair with a fancy Nicaraguan touch to it. He also showed me how to make a dining room table have extenders put on to make it bigger. We also had to paint a lot. I didn’t think that you had to paint so much as a carpenter but I guess you do because that’s what I was mostly doing the whole time. We went to eat at this weird restaurant that he had never been to and we both agreed that it wasn’t as good so we took a detour and went back to his house to eat more nacatamal. Then we went back to his shop and painted some more. For our last dinner he had saved up his money for a fancy restaurant for us to go to. He had made a reservation for 6 so we had to hustle back to my hotel and his house to get changed. We ran out and drove quick to get there. We got there at 6:05 and they let us straight in. They told us that we could ether have menus or have them surprise us so we chose the “surprise us one” they gave us this fish dish.

The fish dish was very weird but it tasted amazing. Our plates were clear in minutes. We talked more about the country and we had a great time. Then they asked us if we wanted dessert and we ended up getting a chocolate lava cake because I told him that I liked them so we got 2 of those and the were great. Perfect multon center. We were both exhausted from working all day so he asked me if I wanted to come to his house and he would give me ride to the airport in the morning. I expected and he was very happy. I didn’t want him to have to use some of the money I loaned to his so while he was in the bathroom I picked up the tab. We went back to his apartment/house and went right to bed because we were tired and had to get up early.

Day 3

It was our final morning together and It was sad. I woke juan up at 6:30 so we could have a final breakfast that I made for him. Eggs, pancakes, bacon, and waffles, It was good I had to wake up super early because I needed to go to the store and find the materials. He was overjoyed and the food was awesome, so I packed up my stuff and we left for the airport at 8 and got their by 9. We hugged and he said “thank you so much for loaning to me and coming here to actually meet me and see what kinda person I am”. He gave me a final going away present which was a “mini chair” that was a tiny version of the one I had painted yesterday. We said bye and I was on my way.
