The slavery doesn’t just affect the people put into slavery but it also effects the village life. The villagers live in fear, not knowing who will be killed or captured and forced into slavery. Slavery decreases the population of village life. It is mostly young men that would be getting captured because of their physical abilities, which means less working men in the village, so women would do the hunting and support the family. But then women would be taken away too, so less children and resources. Since the village is trying to avoid being captured they continue to move villages getting closer and closer to the forest which is deadly because it carries diseases and animals who would harm them.

Amoo saves his family from slavery. He would never allow any of his family become a slave because he watched his siblings, and parents been taken away from him. He killed his wife because of this and scarred his daughter to keep her free. He sacrificed his life for his daughter’s freedom because he was captured by the slave-hunters and he became a prisoner on the coast. This is an ordinary thing, not wanting any of his family to become slaves like their ancestors, Amoo had witnessed the capturing of his family and he’s scared that he would lose his family to slavery again, because it isn’t likely that he would see his daughter again. He would rather keep them at peace and not to fear anymore. Momutu saves his family by becoming a hunter so it’ll be easier for him to not capture his family, but what he’s doing is wrong. Momutu had also witnessed his family being taken away from him, but he does such horrible things to other people because he is scared.
