that: "It all started with the spelling of the first title, ’Magyk.’ I felt the way that magic is normally spelled makes people think of conjuring tricks and stage magicians and I wanted to avoid that. But in the past, before spelling became standardized, people would spell words how they chose to, sometimes in different ways in the same sentence. Magic was often spelled magyck, so all I did was to change that a little. After that I carried on using archaic spelling for words associated with magic and the supernatural. It makes them look a little different, gives a different flavor to them.”
Now, you may wonder what things are offered in this series. Well, you’ll find seaports, ships, slum area, castle, underground ice tunnels, creatures of brownies, quake oozes, boggarts, pythons, wolves, dragon, and living trees just like in other stories originated from The Three Lions football team’s country. New things I’m sure you have yet found in other books are aunt Zelda’s cabbage sandwich and how troublesome it is to have a pet of a dragon which has a huge appetite then off course also mammoth faeces. For sure, the actions, mystery and a number of humours from the message service rat will urge you to open another page of the book. No worry for moms who are assigned for children bedtime story, since the book is comprises of several short chapters. Almost forget to mention, the fourth book, Queste, was sold with a bonus of CD containing games developed based on the world of Septimus Heap, such as ice slide in the ice tunnels which was often exercised by Septimus and his friend, Beetle, whenever they needed to escape from someone or go to places in short time. The games are relatively easy and can be played by kids old enough to play with computer. Kids, or moms, who have read the books, can try their luck with quizzes on www.septimusheap.com
Aside from those seven books, there is also additional guidance book, The Magykal Papers, which serves as an encyclopaedia of Septimus Heap series, illustrated with full colour pictures. Good news for those fantasy movie lovers, Warner Brothers already bought the right to film the first book, Magyk. But hearsay, the film will not be in production yet until the Harry Potter serial movies completed. So, let’s wait.
