Gilgamesh and Odysseus were guided by strong moral goals. They demonstrated courage, faithfulness and brave leadership. Odysseus was caring and wanted more than anything to be home with his family. “Now from his breast into the eyes the ache of longing mounted, and he wept at last, his dear wife, clear and faithful, in his arms, longed for as the sunwarmed earth is longed for by a swimmer spent in rough water where his ship went down under Poseidon's blows, gale winds and tons of sea. Few men can keep alive through a big serf to crawl, clotted with brine, on kindly beaches in joy, in joy, knowing the abyss behind: and so she too rejoiced, her gaze upon her husband, her white arms round him pressed as though forever.” This quote shows the love between Odysseus and his wife. He was more of a selfless person compared to Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh was an immature ruler who had a nasty way of being in charge. Both men went through years of traveling. Gilgamesh searched for the promise of becoming immortal. This search back fired but made a huge change in his character. Odysseus was given the promise of immortal life and turned it down for his family. Odysseus knew that an immortal life would grow boring and would not be as valuable as human life. Het raveled to find his way back home. Gilgamesh would have taken that offer and would not have understood the true value of human life. Their lives and journeys were just as much different and they were alike.
