Once we got off at our destination and walked onto the street, I was suddenly overwhelmed with contentment and excitement all at once. Just the beauty in every single thing about being at time square was so noticeable to me without even trying. That feeling explains and describes my whole trip. It was a feeling to die for. To finally travel and arrive at that place in the world that you so desperately have been longing for. I couldn’t get enough of it. During the rest of the week that we spent in New York, we also visited the 9/11 memorial, which was very sad and overwhelming but yet also peaceful. We stopped by the Grand Central Station in which I figured out why they call it grand by its massive walls and impressive architecture. The Empire State Building was closed at the time for viewing but Marshall and I stopped by it anyway to say we actually went to it. We also took the subway to Williamsburg which is in Brooklyn. Let’s just say Williamsburg is home to many, many hipsters. Last but not least, on our way home to Queens every night, Marshall and I would always take the subway that was in Union Square. On our first night out, it was about 11:00 pm when we decided we wanted to head back and call it a night. There were these group of men about our age out playing with a volleyball trying to get people involved and join in. As curious as I am and how I love to have fun, I decided to join in. Every single one of them was filled with joy and had such a freeness to them. It was enlightening. I quickly became friends with all of them and for the rest of the week that I stayed in New York, I played volleyball with them. I’d have to say that was the most rewarding thing about New York. Out of all the hectic and busy things going on all around you, you can stop for a second and notice kind and genuine people. Unfortunately, I had to leave New York and head back to California. I guess all good things do come to an end.

To conclude all this excitement and love for a city, New York was absolutely the best graduation gift an 18-year-old kid can ask for. Not only was it breathtaking, but it opened up my eyes to a different lifestyle. Living in California in a small town can limit you to how busy and beautiful the world can be. New York did that for me.
