One of the realistic solutions Swift purposes was “ taxing our absentees at five shillings a pound”. Or “ utterly rejecting the materials and instruments that promote foreign luxury”. “ of learning to love our country, in the want of which we differ even from”. I think Swift offered real solutions in his satirical piece to bring accuracy to it, and not have it all be about jokes.

I think by using satire and irony, Swift was able to grab the audience’s attention more and make them see the problem, the funny solution while including the real one. When using basic persuasion, Swift can not accomplish this because readers won’t be engaged.

Swift describing the poverty of Ireland and the emotion he used while writing, shows his purpose,” It is a melancholy object to walk through this great town, or travel in the country, when they see the streets, the roads, and cabin doors crowded with beggars of the female sex, followed by three, four, or six children, all in rags and all importuning every passenger for an alms.” This shows his true purpose because Swift wanted to bring to attention the severity of the economy problem in Ireland.
