VOLCANOES, LATENT DANGER
Chile is a country well known internationally for its wine, salmon and fruit, but not only therefore its goodness is known. Chile is also known as one of the most seismic countries, and this adds, it is one of the countries with the largest number of volcanoes in the world.
Chile is a thin strip of land, with very diverse nature, from the world's driest desert in the north to the great glaciers in the south reaching the Antarctic. It has coastline along its length and on the other hand, many volcanoes along the entire ridge. I live in a southern city, from my home I can see four volcanoes, three of them active and each with a fairly devastating history. Year after year, our lands are visited by people from around the world, attracted by our beautiful landscapes without knowing, if you like, the latent danger.
Certainly for foreigners is very strange how Chileans behave, here it is normal suddenly it is warning is a major earthquake, tsunami warnings and volcanic eruptions, and however we continue forward. The press says very much, people are used to this type of events, but really it is not. On the one hand, people are always attentive to earthquakes, but they have always omitted the volcanoes.
This country has more than two thousand volcanoes known of which five hundred are active, and it says "known" because in 2008 Chaitén volcano erupted, which wiped out an entire village, and even then believed it was just a hill. This makes us wonder, how many more unknown and active volcanoes in Chile are there? How many more eruptions will we have to witness for we can know how many volcanoes have our territory? Nobody can answer, we only have one option, be cautious and listen to nature.
