key change in Looking for Alibrandi is the change in perspective. This is demonstrated through Josie, as she has many experiences that alter her perspective on her problems and her life. Towards the start of the novel, she was quite negative about her culture, relationships and school. However, by the end of the novel her whole perspective on these aspects of her life change, through her experiences and encounters with certain people. After having an argument with her mother, which is demonstrated through dialogue, she realises that she is grateful for her. A realisation is that her life “isn’t as bad as I make it out to be” and that she can be a little selfish. This is a key point in her life as Josie is beginning to grow up and expand her awareness, change does not happen straight away, however different encounters and have a major impact. Her relationship with Jacob Coote also influences her change in perspective, as she realises that “things don’t turn out the way you want them to”. She never pictured herself being in a relationship with him, till she realised she was in love with him for the way he makes her feel not his appearance. Her perspective on life is a major factor of change, as she realises what is important in life and lets go off the negativity, this lets her mature and grow up.

Perspective is also a key change in The Breakfast Club, this is demonstrated through the many experiences the characters share with one another. Each of the characters made their own assumptions on each other and fit to a stereotype. However after their sharing their own experiences it changes their perspectives on each other and the stereotype is removed.

Change inevitably occurs in everyone’s life, this is influenced by the people we meet, the experiences we encounter and the places we go. Looking for Alibrandi and The Breakfast Club explore the ideas of changes in relationships and changes in perspective through the central characters. The experiences they encounter occur between the relationships they have with themselves and the people that surround them.
