After a month of playing for the Bulls, Jordan was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated with the headline A Star is Born. Jordan was on the cover of that magazine 50 more times during his career. Jordan also was voted the NBA’s 1984-1985 Rookie of The Year. His greatest season in the NBA was 1986-1987, in which he scored 3,041points. He led the scoring once more in 1987-1988 shooting 53.8 percent and averaging 32.5 points. He won his first MVP from the NBA in 1988 and was also names Defensive Player of the Year that same year. He won two more MVP awards in 1991 and 1992 and won his first NBA championship in 1991.

Michael Jordan used his good looks and charm to endorse products. He was paid 4 times his NBA salary of $800,000 to endorse products for McDonald’s, Chevrolet, and Nike. The Nike Air Jordan basketball shoe is still one of the top selling shoes for Nike. Jordan and the Bulls won NBA championships in 1996 and 1998, and Jordan won his sixth and final MVP that year. He retired in 1999, returned to the Washington Wizards in 2001, but retired in 2003 because of injuries.

Jordan led the Bulls in the six NBA championships they won. He won the MVP Award for each of those games, was named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player five times during his career, named to the All-NBA First Team ten times, and to the NBA All-Defensive First Team nine times. He scored more than 30,000 points over his career and ranks as one of basketball’s all-time scorers.
