3. Is the industry seasonal? (off-season

opportunities to generate revenue?)

Entertainment industry is fairly mature yet lack of innovation.

The traditional mode of entertainment is relatively tedious.

However the age group of customers in this industry is limited, so revenue in this industry is generated mainly from young age groups. In such situation, we concentrate on wider age group customers. Most board games are not only attractive to the young, but also are they favored by adults and old people.

4. Barriers to entering this business? (gov’t.

regulations; licensing; product testing; safety

inspections, etc.?)

There are two major barriers to entering this business. The first one is government regulation. Since we have a section where alcohol is allowed, and we also have customers who are under 21, we need to report clearly to government institution to get license to operate Broad Games. In addition we need to procure different facilities that American stores may not have.

Customers can have a rest in lounges. There are massage chairs and TVs in lounges.

· Competitive Analysis

Our company Broad Games located on University Dr. which near Arizona State University. In the Tempe area, there are only few board game stores and all of them are far away from ASU. The board game is a fairly new market, so we do not have many direct competitors. But we have lots of indirect competitors which might have big impact on us.

Direct Competitors

I found two examples of direct competitor which near to ASU and have some similar with our board game store. First one, named Game Deport which located in McClintock Dr. The weakness of this store is they closed so early, students like us end class after 5 or white collar off their work at 7pm, want to have some fun at night, the store closed at 7pm., this would make some people upset, even they have lots of games to play. Our store closed at 12am in weekdays and 2am on weekends, this gives out opportunities for people who wants to hang out and have fun at night.

The second one named Empire Games which located in Greenfield Rd, Mesa. The weakness of this store is it takes 25 minutes to drive from ASU, it is not suitable for students who does not have a car and want to play board games. The second weakness is the store is focused on miniature games. It’s not like us, our store have plenty of games to choose, for example: we have the card game named Legends Of Three Kingdom, which is very popular in China, UC Berkeley opened a course to teach how to play it, so it already known by some students. Another unique game we have is Mahjong, which is a traditional Chinese board game, many foreigners feel curious about Mahjong and have the passion to learn it. Our company’s board games are more attractive than others, because our games are diversed.

In conclusion, we have the best location, store hours and game choice in the competitors’ market, also our company provide dessert and drinks which others don’t.

Indirect Competitors

There are lots of indirect competitors to us, the biggest threat to us are big entertainment stores like: Main Event, Dave and Busters.

Main Event is located in Emerald Dr, which takes 17 minutes to drive from ASU. Main Event include bowling, laser tag, billiards, gravity ropes, arcade game.Dave and Busters located in Tempe Marketplace which provide hundreds of arcade games to play.

The common point of Main Event and D&B is they only provide fun and entertainment for people, but they cannot develop people’s intelligent. Board game can make people relax, have fun and exercise their brain.

Furthermore, when we can extend the place of our company, we maybe consider to add the gravity ropes in our store, because it can improve courage of people.

o What other companies occupy the market niche you want to enter; how successful have they been—do you know their sales and market share? (you are never without competition – don’t overlook on-line competitors)

Note: This is a good place to insert a market

share pie chart.
