It is good to have a casual conversation with the hiring manager previously. Also try to talk to previous or current employees in the equivalent position that you applied for, ask them the actual challenges of the job. This will allow you to amplify the role so you can lead your interview more meticulously to the job.
- Prepare you CV
Even though your CV will state you have been working at the company and the people interviewing you possibly know who you are and what you’ve done, walking in with a CV that is up to date and pertinent for the open position will show your interest and also how you can bring something new to the equation. Don`t forget that there is someone you work with and maybe with more or the exact same knowledge internally as you will be fighting for that same job too, so strike on paper as well as in communication.
- Be professional
Internal interviews are deffinetly not as easy as you think. You walk into a room and there will be a boss or board of managers that you have known for some time. You may know some of them more throughly, had bumped into them over lunch. None of this moments matter in the interview process, so remain professional. Do not chit-chat, answer the questions truly and underline your abilities and why you feel you are right for the position. If the pressure is too much, take a deep breath nonetheless don’t demonstrate any weakness, the key to this is showing you can succeed under pressure.
- Know your reputation
While your interviewers will try their best to be unbiased and to base their choice simply on the interview, it is inevitable to have expectations of you before you even enter the room, whichever because they’ve worked with you or overheard about you from others. You may be well known to have a certain approach to work or supposed to be weak or strong in different areas. It is imperative to be conscious of your reputation within the organisation so that you can work to your strengths and challenge any biases, and besides knowing your real strengths and limitations shows self awareness.
