Introduction

This report is all about Business Environment of three organizations which is selected are listed in Colombo Stock Exchange. And select one and describe it briefly What are the challenges in the environment, how they influence its business and what are the strategies organization uses to face these challenges are described in this report.

In this report the select in listed companies are the John Keells Holdings PLC, the Union Bank of Colombo PLC and the Chilaw Finance PLC. The John Keells Holdings is the main company that select to describe the tasks.

John Keells holdings

John Keells Holdings PLC (JKH) is the largest listed company on the Colombo Stock Exchange, with business interests primarily in Transportation, Leisure, Property, Consumer Foods & Retail, Financial Services and Information Technology, among others. Started in early 1870s as a produce and exchange broking business by two Englishmen, Edwin and George John, the Group has been known to constantly re- align, re-position and re-invent itself in pursuing growth sectors of the time. JKH was incorporated as a public limited liability company in 1979 and obtained a listing on the Colombo Stock Exchange in 1985. Having issued Global Depository Receipts (GDRs) in 1994 which were listed on the Luxemburg Stock Exchange, JKH became the first Sri Lankan company to be listed overseas. Union Bank Colombo PLC

Union Bank of Colombo PLC was incorporated on 02nd February 1995. As a Limited Liability Company. It was registered as an approved Licensed Commercial Bank under the Banking Act No. 30 of 1988 and commenced banking business on 16th June 1995. The Bank was re-registered as required under the provisions of the Companies Act No.7 of 2007 on 23rd September 2008. The Ordinary Voting Shares of the Bank were listed on the Main Board of the Colombo Stock Exchange with effect from 29th March 2011. As a result the name of the Bank was converted from Union Bank of Colombo Limited to Union Bank of Colombo PLC.[pic 2]

Chilaw Finance PLC

As a policy Chilaw Finance PLC will make every endeavor to maintain the quality of its assets, keep a close watch on the balance sheet and the factor of profitability will be considered not at the expense of undue risk. Company will continue to play its role in assisting SMEs the most dynamic sector of the economy.

The Chilaw Finance PLC was a public limited liability company incorporated under the Companies Act No. 17 of 1982 and the company was re-registered under the Companies Act No. 7 of 2007 and quoted in the Colombo Stock Exchange in May 2011. A registered Finance Company with the monetary Board of Central Bank of Sri Lanka under the Finance Companies Act No. 78 of 1988.Company Registration Number PB508 PQ. Stock Exchange Listing The voting ordinary shares of the company are listed on the “Dirisavi Board” of the Colombo Stock Exchange.[pic 3]
