Improved systems can make a huge difference when a lack of control is present. The cost of making such implementations is by no means cheap but for a large company as International Game Technology, the benefits outweigh the cost. From 2002 to 2003 when the company switched systems, various areas of the business improved which confirmed the decision of change to have been a good one. So if the change was good, why has International Game Technology chosen to continue operating its older factory control system? Some may say why fix something that is not broken, others may say because it is less rigid than the new Enterprise Resource Planning system, etc. Who is correct? Neither, there is no right answer. International Game Technology may have felt that making too many changes at one time may affect or slow down production. Since everyone knows the old system and it is working fine, than why make another change? They may have wanted to slowly introduce change in one area at a time so that employees do not feel overwhelmed with all the changes. Such thinking would also give peace of mind to many in knowing that they still have some type of experienced knowledge during a time of changing.

Analysts estimated that International Game Technology spent over $10 million in implementing the new Enterprise Resource Planning system. A system which immediately showed great improvements for the company and its products. By researching last year’s revenue of $4.1 billion, I believe it is safe to say that International Game Technology continued to do well in the market of slot and lottery machines.
