Emotional Quotient is the capacity of individuals to recognize their own, and other people's emotions, to discriminate between different feelings and label them appropriately, to use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior, and to manage and/or adjust emotions to adapt environment or achieve one's goal. Mr. Kumar stated that we are human and there are chances of some kind of biasing now and then, but the system is designed in such a way that there should not be any bias. No manager would like to have a bias because they know and understand the skill set of his team members and depending on a new work that comes, there are some people who can be trusted to handle the task because of their past experience and skill set.

Working with someone for a long period of time, makes an image of that person and sometimes it may lead to biasing. As ICICI is a performance driven organization, he tries to remain as impartial as he can and HR department is always there to have a check on the same.

Resistance to changes:

Changes have been happening in the organization. Sometimes the changes are related to market trends and sometimes due to mergers and accusations. These changes certainly bring discomfort to down the line employees and sometimes even for the customers. The most important or basic rule here is to keep managing that is how the organization remains agile and adaptive. When a decision comes from the top management one needs to get aligned with the broader strategy of the organization and not stick to his/her personal comfort zone as there is no point in constantly questioning the change. If the top management has taken a decision and ordered for implementation it is going to be implemented in 95% of the cases. In simple terms if one is given a playground to play, it’s better to play and play by the rules.

The final question of this section put towards Mr. Kumar referred to the factors that lead him to have a positive perception about a person in his working environment.

A person can be judged in two ways:

- The First Impression: The first meeting leaves a lasting effect of the personality of an individual on others.

- Experienced Impression: While working with individuals one comes to know a lot more about them and that may vary from the first impression.

Organization on the whole doesn’t really worry about this because it is more of a situation based, but this is only till the time individual brings in positivity and is a performer. Once he/she starts spreading negativity inside or outside, the organization takes it negatively and has a strong view to it.
