How the Internet Should and Will Continue to Be Successful?

The internet already converges with things such as tv and movies, Netflix, but it could be expanded. The internet is basically a giant magazine in the fact that companies put ads all over, you can get your news right from it, and it provides entertainment. Its basically converged with every type of media because now people are able to stream TV with their computers, can watch movies, read books and communicate with people. So the internet is basically the big "melting pot" of all of our mediums in which they all come together.

This is such a conformed medium, meaning that almost everybody on the planet uses the internet in some way or form. It provides such opportunity for greater quality of work because people have every resource possible at the tips of their fingers. Getting back to advertising, apps like Instagram, and Twitter have started acting as tremendous outlets for local, and even global businesses. The more "followers" you have on social media, the more people from around the world are going to be seeing your product/ service. People share millions of things every day and it just provides so much more opportunity for businesses to prosper and grow. Adding on to the convergence side of things, the internet has converged with business, in a sense that almost every business has some form of social media or internet association.

With the internet there can be some problems faced with advertising. Eric Picard believes brand advertisers are very specific with their ads because they want it to be shown to their target market, and they want to drive customers towards their product or service. It can be hard to do this on the internet because most people might ignore the ads or might not even see them. Another problem is that ads on the internet don’t fill full pages as they would in a magazine. When buying ad space in a magazine, businesses know that people are at least going to be seeing their ads. So comparing the two, magazines or any medium like that is better for placing ads, not selling their product, but ad placement.

The internet has continued to grow since 1969 going from being something used for military purposes and email, to one of the biggest forms of entertainment today. Like technology, the internet will constantly grow, and continue to serve new purposes. As we develop new inventions, and forms of mediums, the internet will always be significant, as said before, it is basically the "meeting point" of all of the mediums known today.
