D. Objectives

The main objective of this study is to develop a system that can generate tips or suggestions for incoming students about senior high school tracks in the K to 12 program. It is the hope of the researchers that this system will aid them to come up with wiser career decisions as it matches their grades to possible senior high school tracks that is suitable for them.

E. Scope and Limitations

This proposed system centered only on institutions with K-to-12 programs available. It contains predicting and data mining to help the student to assess better choices for SHS tracks. It only lies on predicting the possible tracks of the student in K-to-12 program according to its general averages that he/she earned on his/her junior high school days. It will be limited to junior high school students who will now proceed to senior high school.

In addition, the study revolved around the conditions and achievement according to grade average of junior high school students. There is no assumption that the findings would serve as representative of the whole division, region, and country.

E. Definition of Terms

• K-to-12 – is an educational program that covers kindergarten and 12 years of basic education to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship.

• Senior High School (SHS) Track – specific areas of study under four tracks, namely, Academic, Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL), Sports, and Arts & Design.

• Prediction - It attempts to form patterns that permit it to predict the next event given the available input data that is inputted to the system.

II. REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

This chapter presents the different researches and other literatures form both foreign and local researchers, which have significant bearings on the variables included in the research. It focuses on several aspects that will help in the development of this study. The study is generally concentrating on the study of creating the K-to-12 Track Prediction using Data Mining. Various studies and literature were reviewed by the researcher to be able to gain insight about the particular area of research. The literatures of this study come from books, journals, articles, electronic materials such as PDF, and other existing theses, foreign and local that are believed to be useful in the advancement of awareness concerning the study

K-to-12 Education

[1] The K-to-12 program is designed for best interest in mind for the students. This is the product of years of research, planning, and consultation that allows students to meet their competencies, career, and values personal choice for their success in the future. It covers the kindergarten and additional 12 years of education to prepare graduate students in their education, skills, development, employment and entrepreneurship by providing enough time for developing their skills for lifelong education for the graduate students.

The Senior High School, as part of the K to 12 Basic Curriculum, was developed in line with the curriculum of the Commission of Higher Education (CHED) – the governing body for college and university education in the Philippines. This checks the knowledge, skills and competencies of the student before entering college.

Senior High School Tracks Strands

- Academic Track - In this track, 4 strands belong to the Academic Track:

- Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) is for students who plan to take up Economics, Business Administration, Accountancy and Marketing in college.

- Humanities and Social Sciences Strand (HUMSS) is for students who are looking up for writing, Political Science, Sociology, Priesthood, Law and Community Studies.

- Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Strand is for students who want to study Pure and Applied Sciences, Engineering and Mathematics in college. In includes Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Calculus in this strand.

- General Academic Strand is for students who are not yet sure what course to take in college. It teaches Social Science, Humanities, Economics, Management and Disaster Readiness.

- Arts and Design Track

- This track is for the artistic ones not just in painting or drawing but also in performing arts. Students can chose this if they want to be a painter, singer, dancer, actor, sculptor, director or any related job.

- Sports Track

- This track is for students who are athletes and who are likely to engage in sports whether playing games, officiating or coaching.

- Technical-Vocational Livelihood Track - The TVL track is divided into four strands. This caters to those who want to work immediately after Senior High School.

- Home Economics Strand is for students who are interested in housekeeping, tailoring, caregiving, food and beverage services, bread and pastry services, tourism and handicrafts.

- Information and Communication Technology Strand is for students who are interested in computers. After taking this strand, student can then proceed to BSIT in college. Students can also work immediately as computer programmers, animators or medical transcriptionists but they should make sure that they mastered the competencies as required.

- Agri-Fisheries Strand is for students who are interested in agriculture and aquaculture.

- Industrial Arts Strand is for students who have the skills of Carpentry, Automotive Servicing, Refrigeration and Airconditioning, Electronics Repair, Electrical Installation, Welding (SMAW), Plumbing and Tile Setting
